Older Adults benefit from two types of connectivity for home and community-based services:

  • Broadband via Wi-Fi: Internet connection provided through router at a physical location such as a home, community center or place of business.
  • Broadband via 5G: Internet connection provided through a cell tower by a specific cellular provider that generally allows for better mobility in a community as long the cellular provider services the associated area.

California LifeLine

The California LifeLine Program (California LifeLine) is a state program that provides discounted home phone and cell phone services to eligible households. The California LifeLine discounts help consumers lower the cost of their phone bills. Only one discount per household is allowed (except for teletypewriter users and for Deaf and Disabled Telecommunications Program participants). Each household must choose to get the discount either on a home phone or on a cell phone, but not on both. Check out the Types of Discounted Services Available to learn about the program’s benefits.

Are you receiving the new STR Senior Low-income discount?

Beginning January 2024, a new program provides lower rates for senior low-income residents in the South Tahoe Refuse service area.

In order to receive the 20% discount, your home must qualify for the California Care Program.
